Artist Sujata Dere completed her formal art education at the prestigious Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, in 1979, where she received a scholarship for merit in her second year. She also earned an award in the Maharashtra State Art Exhibition, India. Having traveled extensively in India, Europe, and the US, she spent 2004-05 as a member of the Art League School in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia.
Sujata has explored various mediums, ranging from ceramics and clay to charcoal, pastels, ink, acrylics, and now mixed media. Her artistic journey has led to a deeply meditative series featuring serene Lotus Ponds and the graceful form of the Horse, portraying poetic beings embodying all that is instinctual and intuitive.
Being drawn to the dynamic presence of horses, Sujata Dere reflects, "Horses speak to that part of our souls that long for a connection with nature, with something larger and wiser than ourselves."
Sujata’s works, showcased in numerous significant exhibitions, have garnered both critical and popular acclaim. They are an intrinsic part of private collections across India, the Middle East, Europe, and the US.
